Club Structure Explained by Ray Hilton
Although traditionally a competitive club, we do have a very good Beginners and Recreational section which plays a very important part in our club structure as it very often gives boys and girls their first opportunity to experience the sport of gymnastics. The emphasis is very much on having fun, while introducing a degree of fitness, fundamental shapes and certain amount of discipline which is necessary for their own safety. These sessions are conducted under a very relaxed atmosphere where all are allowed whatever time is required to achieve their own personal goals, but they do serve another purpose, as they enable coaches to assess their potential for entering competitive gymnastics, if they so desire. I might add at this point that most children master the basic moves relatively quickly, but it is their strength or flexibility that can take time to develop, and it requires a certain standard in both of these, before they can be considered for the competitive side of the sport.
